Friends' volunteers are a highly diverse bunch. In their work lives, they have been or still are; farmers, business people, engineers, teachers, nurses and so much more. What they all share is a love of books and an appreciation of public libraries.
Those who volunteer tend to stay for many years because they know that their work is important and because they enjoy the camaraderie of their fellow volunteers—and readers.
In 2017, Friends contributed 869 hours of time volunteering directly at the library and many more in fundraising activities.
The What, When & Where of Volunteering
Volunteers may sort, price, and arrange books for the Annual Book Sale, or work in the Book Nook. Other volunteer opportunities include helping with event publicity, working on the scholarship committee, sharing information about the library with the community, and working right in the library.
We can always use your help, whether it’s once a year or five hours a week, we will find something you will enjoy doing.
Like all City of Bastrop volunteers, a background check is required, if you work directly for the library.
